Dhaka: Chief Adviser Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus is set to depart Dhaka for Davos, Switzerland, on Tuesday for a four-day official visit to attend the annual World Economic Forum (WEF) meeting, which begins on January 21. The announcement was made by Chief Adviser’s Deputy Press Secretary Abul Kalam Azad Majumder during a press briefing at the Foreign Service Academy.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, during his visit, the Chief Adviser is scheduled to engage in bilateral discussions with several prominent leaders, including German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, Finland President Alexander Stubb, King Philippe of Belgium, and Thailand Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra. Additionally, meetings are planned with Sheikha Latifa bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, daughter of the Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates, Christine Lagarde, President of the European Central Bank, Sir Nick Clegg, President of Global Affairs at Meta, Dr. Agn¨s Callamard, Secretary General at Amnesty International, and Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Director General of the World Trade Organisation.
A significant feature of the Chief Adviser’s visit will be a separate dialogue on Bangladesh at the World Economic Forum. This event is anticipated to be a platform where global business leaders and CEOs of various international organizations will participate. Deputy Press Secretary Azad highlighted this dialogue as a rare opportunity for Bangladesh, marking the first time the country will hold such discussions at an event of the WEF’s magnitude.
The interim government of Bangladesh views this dialogue as a potential catalyst for attracting global investment into the country.
