Kathmandu: Minister for Drinking Water, Pradip Yadav, emphasized the necessity of collective cooperation from all political factions to ensure the success of sanitation and hygiene campaigns. In his communication to political party leaders, Minister Yadav stressed the importance of their involvement in initiatives concerning drinking water, sanitation, hygiene, and climate change adaptation.
According to National News Agency Nepal, the minister has reached out to the chairs and leaders of all political parties, urging them to prioritize these issues in Cabinet and parliamentary discussions. He encouraged organizing meetings with the participation of all province chief ministers and the formulation of inclusive strategies that address sanitation and climate adaptation. Minister Yadav highlighted that political leaders must give special attention to these areas, as coordinated efforts can lead to significant progress.
Minister Yadav pointed out several challenges, including the slow movement on these issues, overlapping programs across different government levels, limited resources, and bureaucratic obstacles. He underscored the role of drinking water and sanitation as essential components of sustainable development and called for a commitment from all political parties to extend the Melamchi Drinking Water project to Chandragiri municipality in the Kathmandu Valley. Additionally, he advocated for the removal of taxes on community drinking water systems to facilitate better access and service expansion.
