Sohan Stresses Building New Country with the Spirit of July Uprising

Dhaka: Bangladesh wicket-keeper batter Nurul Hasan Sohan emphasized the importance of building a new country by upholding the spirit of the July uprising. Sohan is the first elite cricketer to actively join the mass uprising last year, which eventually removed autocratic ruler Sheikh Hasina from power and paved the way for a discrimination-free country. He urged the people to remain vigilant against any vested interests attempting to undermine the achievements of the movement.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Sohan stressed the need for collective awareness to resist those who might try to reverse the movement’s gains. He highlighted the role of students and people from all walks of life in the uprising, noting that everyone must work together to prevent a return to the previous situation. Sohan called on the general public to assist the government in building a new nation, acknowledging that it is a long and challenging process.

Sohan expressed confidence in the government’s efforts to honor those who sacrificed their lives during the movement. He believes the government is doing its best to support these individuals and will continue to do so. Sohan revealed that his involvement in the July mass uprising was driven by his inner feelings, despite the potential risks to his cricket career.

He recounted his experience of joining the movement upon returning from Australia, where he was undergoing surgery. Sohan joined the students of North South University in Dhaka’s Bashundhara area, motivated by a sense of duty to express his views. He emphasized his commitment to standing up for what he believes is right, regardless of political affiliations.

As a player, Sohan expressed his desire for the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) to achieve consistency and become a recognized brand. Leading the Rangpur Riders, owned by Bashundhara Group, Sohan has seen success in the tournament, with Rangpur winning the Global Super League (GSL) trophy under his captaincy. He highlighted the importance of stable contracts with BPL franchises to ensure long-term success and trust among stakeholders.

Sohan praised the Bangladesh Cricket Board’s commitment to establishing long-term contracts with franchises, seeing it as a positive step towards achieving consistent results in the future.
