Bagmati: Chief Minister of Bagmati Province, Bahadur Singh Lama, has emphasized the importance of youth leadership in policy and decision-making, arguing that empowering young people will significantly contribute to governance. Inaugurating the Province Youth Summit-2082 organized by the Province Youth Council, CM Lama highlighted that recognizing the talents and roles of youth in governance is essential for driving development and prosperity forward.
According to National News Agency Nepal, CM Lama stated that the provincial government has adopted a policy focused on addressing the needs and demands of the youth while formulating policies. He underscored that young people are not only future pillars of development but also active partners in the present. The Chief Minister assured that the provincial government’s upcoming budget will prioritize youth roles and development, reflecting their aspirations and needs in the policies and programs of Bagmati Province.
CM Lama further noted that the role of youth, along with their education, skills, and employment, is vital for harnessing the demographic dividend. He emphasized the necessity of youth participation and partnership in driving development across various sectors.
On the same occasion, Minister for Youth and Sports in the province, Min Krishna Maharjan, highlighted the potential of linking youth skills with sports and launching further initiatives. Vice Chairperson of the Council, Santosh Chaulagain, expressed that the event aimed to unite the government and youth, praising the provincial government’s visible efforts on youth-related issues. He mentioned that the Council is contributing to the formulation of youth-related laws and that various agricultural schemes have been launched to attract youth to the sector. Chaulagain also pointed out the concern over Nepal’s reliance on imports despite 62 percent of its youth being involved in agriculture.
The summit, which runs until May 13, has attracted over 300 youths from all seven provinces. The three-day event features discussions on topics such as youth innovation in agriculture, digital governance, technology, climate change, SDGs, skill development training, policy leadership, and youth participation with the Chief Minister. Various panel discussions are also part of the summit’s agenda.
